Abstract (en)
The doctoral thesis examines the possibilities for enhancing creativity in1st and 2nd grade elementary school children. As encouragement and development of creative thinking is regarded as the objective in Arts education, in that context, the aim of this research is to investgate the influence of visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli/aids (VAT stimuli/aids) on the development of creative abilities in children when these aids are carefully selected for a particular teaching topic and suitable for use within the topic.
The experiment with parallel groups is applied for the purpose of this research and it involved the sample group of 270 subjects, comprised of 1st and 2nd grade elementary school children (119 first and 151 second grade children). There were 134 students in the experimental group, and 136 students in the control group. The research was conducted in three schools in the city of Vranje, and the experimental program that was carried out over the course of two semesters, was called The Development of Creativity by Empolying VAT Stimuli.
Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT) – figural form A, was used for the purpose of this research. It included three tasks: Picture Construction, Picture Completion, Lines and it was used for measuring, originality, fluency, elaboration, abstractness of titles, and resistance to premature closure. It also measured a group of creative strengths including: emotional expressiveness, storytelling articulaateness, movement or action, expressivnes of titles, synthesis of incomplete figures, synthesis of lines, unusual visualization, internal visualisation, extending or breaking boundaries, humor, richness of imagery, colorfulness of imagery, fantasy and creativity index.
The results obtained from this research indicated that using the VAT stimuli in Arts education influenced the creativity development. After completing the experimental program, the students in the test/experimental group, statistically, had a significantly higher results in all measured categories.
The research placed emphasis on observation of artwork, listening to music, and the use of tactile stimuli, as a means of developing and cultivating students’ creative abilities through Arts education.
