Abstract (en)
The theme of this dissertation is the value orientations and family values of young people, that is consideration of their potential connection in the ten-year period (2005-2015) in Serbia.
The paper consists of five parts:
1. Designing an adequate theoretical framework that would serve for the consideration of value forms of youth in Serbia.
2. Designing an adequate methodological framework in order to arrive at relevant responses to the set objectives of the research.
3. Determining the presence of a global value orientation on the line of collectivism / individualism and traditionalism / modernity in the mentioned period, based on the conducted meta-analysis of the available quantitative data from the period 2005-2015.
4. Determining family values of young people and linking value orientations and family values, evaluating family forms, processes and relationships.
5. Explanations and understanding of established trends based on the conducted focus of group interviews.
In the first part of the paper, an attempt was made first of all to clarify the basic concepts of work: value orientations (individualism, collectivism, traditionalism and modernity), values (family) and youth concepts, and then an overview of some sociological considerations relevant to the subject of the dissertation. Based on data from several empirical research, an insight was found on the relationship between value orientations and family values.
The second part of the paper was intended to provide an adequate methodological framework in order to obtain as reliable data as possible.
In the third part of the thesis we dealt with the determination of the presence of the aforementioned value orientations in each of the five available research that dealt with some of the topics. After
conducting a nonlinear analysis, in order to obtain more complete data, compression of the variables into a composite variable, called the same name, was done regardless of the fact that it involved a different way of capturing a particular value orientation.
The fourth part of the paper was aimed at determining the family values of young people (in the aforementioned researches) as well as the main factors and trends in the line of modernization, traditionalism, individualization and collectivism, which we assumed to shape the family values of young people, and, based on these recognized factors and trends have come to a possible explanation and understanding of the family values of young people.
The fifth part begins with an overview of the findings and factors that we have come up with descriptive statistics and nonlinear analysis, followed by a check of the finding, i.e. an attempt to understand the observed factors and trends in focus group interviews.
After providing an insight into the findings, at the end of the paper we consider all the conclusions we have come to and trying to give a more precise answer to the questions asked.
